RECAPS:

Carolina RailHawks 2-1 Tampa Bay Rowdies

In the 90th minute, Carolina scored their first goal of the match when Austin Da Luz crossed the ball from the right side of the field into the eighteen yard box.  Cesar Elizondo leaped into the air and headed the ball into the back of the net.   Moments later, the Carolina RailHawks won the game at the very end of the match when Tiyiselani Shipalane received the ball in the center of the field just outside of the eighteen yard box.  Shipalane held onto the ball before taking a shot that deflected off of a Tampa Bay defender and rolled past the Tampa Bay goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the net.

Starting Lineups:

CAR: Fitzgerald, Low, Hamilton, Greendfield, Da Luz, Shipalane, James, Millington, Graye, Shiver, Shilawski

TBR: Restrepo; Sanfilippo, Needham, Yamada, Arango; Mulholland, Hill, Campbell, Savage; Hristov, Ambersley

Atlanta Silverbacks 1-1 FC Edmonton

The goals didn’t start coming in this one until the second half.  Atlanta got on the scoreboard first in the 60th minute.  Midfielder Richie Menjivar sent a fantastic through ball into the eighteen yard box for right back Mark Bloom to run onto.  Bloom passed the ball to Brad Stisser in the center of the box, who shot the ball into the center of the net to make the score 1-0 in favor of Atlanta.  In the 70th minute, FC Edmonton got back in the game with an amazing free kick from Neil Hlavaty.  Hlavaty took a free kick from about 30 yards away from goal that went over the head of goalkeeper Eric Ati to tie the game in fnatstic fashion.  The game would eventually end as a 1-1 draw.

Starting Lineups:

ATL: Ati, Randolph, Navarro, Lancaster, Bloom; Carr, Blanco, Menjivar, Stisser, Barrera; Luna

FCE: Parker; Proctor, Edward, Watson, Laing; Hlavaty, Nurse, Saiko, Garrett, Fordyce, Cox

Minnesota United 2-1 Fort Lauderdale Strikers

Minnesota came from behind on Saturday evening to earn a 2-1 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in stoppage time.  In the 9th minute, Fort Lauderdale’s Darnell King capitalized on a mistake by Minnesota’s goalkeeper Matt VanOekel.  VanOekel received a pass from a teammate that he did not clear quick enough.  When he did attempt to kick the ball out of the penalty box, Darnell King jumped in the way and prevented the ball from leaving the box.  King chased after the ball, turned around, and easily shot the ball into the empty net to give Fort Lauderdale the lead.  The second goal of the game wouldn’t come until the second half, when in the 55th minute, Minnesota’s Pablo Campos converted a penalty kick, due to a Fort Lauderdale handball in the penalty box, to tie the match.  The most important goal of the match came extremely late in stoppage time when Minnesota’s Simone Bracalello sent in a cross from the left edge of the eighteen yard box that reached the head on Pablo Campos.  Campos headed the ball into the net to give Minnesota United FC a thrilling victory.

Starting Lineups:

MNU: VanOekel, Davis, Kallman, Altman, Tobin, Takada, Arguez, Ibarra, Bracalello, Campos, Griffin

FTL: Glaeser, Arcila, Stahl, Gordon, Guillame, King, Thomas, Ramos, Pecka, Johnson, Gonzalez

A LOOK AHEAD:

Fort Lauderdale vs. Atlanta Silverbacks

This match will be between one of the league’s best attacking teams (Atlanta) and one of the worst attacking teams (Fort Lauderdale).  Atlanta’s attacking stars can fully be expected to shine in this match as the Silverbacks previously defeated the Strikers by a score of 2-0 in their home opener earlier this season.  Fort Lauderdale’s Darnell King will have plenty of confidence on Saturday as he scored the Strikers only goal in a 2-1 loss to Minnesota United FC last weekend.  Atlanta’s goalscoring threats include Danny Barrera, Ruben Luna, and Borfor Carr just to name a few.  Expect Atlanta to take three points from this match.

Tampa Bay Rowdies vs. San Antonio Scorpions

After a week off, the San Antonio Scorpions will be hoping that their extra week to prepare for this match will not  go to waste with a loss.  San Antonio continues their mission to continue to move up the standings while Tampa Bay will be fighting to move into first place.  Tampa Bay’s biggest goalscoring threats come from players such as Luke Mulholland and Georgi Hristov.  Both of those players have four goals so far this season.  San Antonio’s attack is still coming together.  Javier Saavedra has looked dangerous for the Scorpions recently, however don’t be surprised to see any other of San Antonio’s midfielders or forwards score.  This match could be close, but Tampa Bay must be the favorite to win this game.

FC Edmonton vs. Carolina RailHawks

The Carolina RailHawks will be coming off of a victory against Chivas USA in the US Open Cup on Wednesday night.  Forwards Brian Shriver and Zach Schilawski along with Carolina’s other talented attackers will now be tasked with keeping the RailHawks in first place when they take on FC Edmonton on Sunday.  Edmonton will be depending on the strong attacking abilities of Michael Cox and Shaun Saiko.  This will likely be an exciting game, but Carolina is the most likely team to earn three points.
